Boswellia serratawas

A novel study has demonstrated the benefits of the herb, Boswellia serratawas, also known as Indian Frankincense, found to be beneficial in patients suffering osteoarthritis.

During the study, researchers used 30% of AKBA from the plant for the extract. Researchers found that patients who were on the drug found relief within one week of taking the medicine. Further, there were no significant side effects, they said, pointing towards its safety for long term use.

Siba Raychaudhuri, a faculty member of the University of California, said, "AKBA has anti-inflammatory properties, and we have shown that B. serrata enriched with AKBA can be an effective treatment for osteoarthritis of the knee. The high incidence of adverse effects associated with currently available medications has created great interest in the search for an effective and safe alternative treatment.
"

Osteoarthritis may now be beaten with an Indian herb.
